On 27 August 2025, EPS embarked on our first learning journey at the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, Marina Barrage. The visit reflected our ongoing commitment to promoting environmental awareness and discovering practical ways to contribute to a greener future.

Guided tour by the friendly Mr James, we explored six zones (A to F) showcasing Singapore’s sustainability milestones — from renewable energy and water conservation to waste reduction and innovative green solutions. Through interactive exhibits and guided tours, we learnt how everyday actions can make a real difference in protecting our planet.

One of the key highlights was discovering the sophistication of Singapore’s household water drainage system — a vivid reminder of the careful planning behind our sustainable urban living. As we all know, water is a precious resource on our small island.
As Singapore celebrated its 60th birthday, we drew inspiration on how Mr Lee Kuan Yew shaped our nation. We hope to bring these lessons back to our workplace and continue moving forward together towards a more sustainable and greener future. We should not take what we have today for granted.
The eco trip also offered an opportunity to strengthen team bonds. Sustainability is not just about policies or technology — it starts with people and the choices we make every day.
Highlights from the tour:
Water Wonders: Mr. James, our tour guide, explaining how barrage is built to acts as a tidal barrier, preventing flooding in the low-lying areas of the city during heavy rains. At the same time, it also serves as a freshwater reservoir by keeping seawater out and storing rainwater. This dual functionality of flood protection and water supply highlights the innovative thinking behind its construction.
Journey to Zero: This exhibition tells the story of Singapore’s efforts towards being a Zero Waste Nation and how we manage the exorbitant amount of waste we generate.
Lastly, our visit reminded us that sustainability Singapore is a shared journey — every small step counts, both at work and in daily life.
